King of the Arcade Review.

Everyone loves an arcade game, but arcade games within a game are something new well to me anyways lol.

Say hello to Mac McCormick a gaming legend that’s hiding in the shadows of his former glory of having won the king of the arcade back when he was 13 years old, after him reaching his peak, his life took a change for the worse and 20 years on he finds himself needing a new career.

Having been looking for a job that can pay his way and desperate for work. Mac stumbles on the castle arcade where he gets offered a job. However, he must prove his worth if he is making a living in the arcade.

Mac’s first task is to play a round of space invaders and get to level 5, reaching level 5 alerts the current scoreboard leader who is looking to make a takeover on the castle arcade.

The experience and nostalgia in the game were brilliant, but sadly a bit short-lived by completing seven challenges playing some retro games and making the story a little short but still lots of fun.

Every game you play within the arcade is fun and are designed to make you feel like your back in the 80’s and relieving the generation you and I grew up in, experience football, space invaders, throwing a basketball though a hoop and plenty more that will have you wanting to play.

The game play on console is a bit twitchy at times, what I mean by this is that when your playing the game like lets say a driving arcade game the controls are really sensitive and I bit too responsive. I found this with most of the arcades I’d experience throughout the game.

The duke box in the game was a nice part of the in-game sound, making you feel like you’re in an actual arcade and you can turn up and down the music that suits your needs. However, the sound effects in the arcade games were slightly basic, but if I’m honest, it’s where the sound should be. It’s not like it needs some sort of surround sound or anything extra.

There has been many games over the years that have put there stamp on the arcade world some successful and many fail, king of the arcade really is a nice type of game that is more for the light hearted gamer which I really do like. I mean, there were a few bits that I would have looked for an improvement if they did this again or patched it. Control’s in arcade games being one of them and the story being a little longer, but hay, that’s the world we live in it’s easy to criticise after somethings been produced.

Would I recommend this game to others. yeah, i would, and for less than £6 its 100% worth the achievement’s alone. 15 of them to complete and easy to grind if you’re an achievement horde.

Can you be the King of the Arcade? I certainly did.
