Construction Simulator: Liebherr Pack – DLC Review

Share the love...

It’s been about 6 months since we whipped out the hard-hat and got our hands dirty with the Sany pack on Construction Simulator, which provided new vehicles, but nothing to really set our gears turning this time round, Liebherr are the manufacturer of choice and we’ve been digging under the surface to see it it’s a worthy investment.

Back to the Sany pack and my main complaints were the high (£12.99) price tag, along with most vehicles feeling a little too similar to existing machinery – all except for a fresh lick of paint and the Sany label. First impresisons of the Liebherr pack are considerably more positive, with the much more reasonable price of only £8.39 and better still the selection of new machinery doesn’t just massively expand on the existing content from the German manufacuter, but also some unique and useful cabs to set foot in.

The items included in the Liebherr pack are…
LR 636 Litronic (Crawler Loader): The new Liebherr crawler loader delivers highest traction and breakout forces with unbeatable maneuverability making it the perfect all-rounder for contemporary earthwork sites.

PR 756 Litronic (Crawler Tractor): The powerful PR 756 Litronic dozer enables construction workers to shift huge volumes of material efficiently and quickly.

TA 230 Litronic (Articulated Dump Truck): Powerful, robust and safe! The new TA 230 Litronic dump truck has been developed for rugged off-road use and is able to tackle any terrain.

T 60-9s (Telescopic Handler): This telescopic handler is a powerful universal machine – quick and nimble, and thanks to its powerful operating hydraulics it allows large amounts of material to be moved and stock piled to the maximum height effectively.

HTM 1204 ZA (Truck Mixer): The HTM 1204 ZA concrete mixer can be attached to any semitrailer truck in the game and combines generous transport volume with low body weight and welldesigned equipment details.

R 938 (Crawler Excavator): The new R 938 crawler excavator is a powerful working machine. Its completely updated design is characteristic of the new range of “generation 8” machines. In order to provide even greater comfort, better ergonomics and more enhanced performance, the architecture of the R 938 has also been completely revamped.

Eagle eyed readers might point out there’s already an Excavator and Dozer from Liebherr, but this is where this pack starts to get interesting, becasue not only do many of these machines feel considerably different to other Liebherr vehicles.
Obviously the telehandler is unique to any of the core content and the Crawler-loader is the only track-based loader too.
The PR 756 Dozer might be similar to the popular choice from CAT, but it felt quite different to handle while still offering the large front at a higher price point.
The TA 230 Litronic might feel a little too familiar with there already being very similar vehicles from CAT, Bell and Dusan, but even then the Liebherr still manages to stand out costing 40k less than any of the other articulated dump trucks.

The Excavator obviously joins quite a large roster, but with such a range from light and agile to large, slow but sturdy excavators with a large bucket, the R938 joins the Atlas as one of the best, it’s not as slow or cumbersome or expensive as its big brother the R956, but it provides a nice balance between agility, power, stabilty and size to make it well worth considering.
Even the concrete mixer (trailer) is unique as rather than including a cab, you can attach it to an existing vehicle, but sadly the price doesn’t reflect it so many are liekly to opt for one of the 6 all-in-one concrete mixers to save attachign and reattaching trailers, which makes it a less inspiring addition than the other five.

The overall presentation of the pack, is as always increidible, COnstruction SImulator was one of the first titles to drag Similation games into the next generation with graphics that felt miles beyond what most titles offer, and each new vehicle seems meticulously detailed, down to every bolt and wir

Obviously it’s dependent on the real-life counterparts, but there’s been plenty of attention gone into selecting a variety of models that not only feel pretty unique to the rest of the content, but also look as unique as the common yellow colourway will allow.

Audio follows suit, with the usual mechanics sounds, clunks of metal and the whirring of gears, if you’ve been near one of these behemoth machines, you’ll have an idea what to expect and why in-game they’re not quite as deafeningly low, they’re still very accurate.

I’m usually pretty critical of vehicle packs, when the core game is already pretty stacked with various offerings and with Liebherr already incredibly well represented in Construciton Simulator I honestly didn’t have very high hopes, but I’ve been very pleasantly surprised,
There’s some argument against any vehicle pack in 99% of games that you’re only buyng optional ways to do things you can already do.
But whether its price differences or performances differences, this bundle has enough to persuade even the most cynical.

Overall, I’ve got no complaints at all, which while it feels strange to say, make this one of the best DLC packs I’ve laid my hands on in a long time,
It’s a reasonable price with some great varied content which is sure to please fans of the franchise and you can’t ask much more than that.
