Panda Punch – Review.

Over the years I’ve played some games, and retro games have always been fun for me. They seem to be everywhere these days. I seriously would have expected that with the systems we have and the graphics that can be provided, they wouldn’t still be such a thing . However, Indie companies are still providing nostalgic retro games that are highly entertaining.

Back in the old days, we had Mario or Double Dragon, which were peak games back in my day. However, now we are still trying to emulate these side scrollers.

Panda Punch, right from the start, delivers so much with the sound and the graphics. This makes me feel like I’ve just stepped back into the early 90’s again.

Touching on the music, me and my wife was talking as I was playing this game, she was like “this music is upbeat” and reminds her of the arcade days she remembers, the beat and the continuation of the beat never seemed to get old.

When I say I nostalgic and stepping back into the 90’s it was all about how the game feels and plays and with the looping to tapping beat, this hit so many fuzzy feelings I’ve got buried in the back of my memory.

Looking at Panda Punch, why is a red panda going around punching the life out of everything, even though he looks like a fox on steroids.

You play a Panda called Zeep, who gets attacked by robots and loses his arm while trying to escape. Zeep heads back to his dads and informs him he has now a busted-up arm and needs to be fixed. In, which provides him with a robot punching arm. Yeah, baby, this is like that guy out of the Avengers.

For the game, you must work your way through a lot of levels even before you hit some sort of boss. I think it was around 18 levels or so and was a tad repetitive at various points of the game.

As far as the game plays it’s a standard side scroller. Jump that box, collect that coin, and dodge that gun cannon thing. The game itself doesn’t really challenge you too much. Even though there were a few parts when a new area was unlocked, I couldn’t figure out which way I was supposed to go.

The first boss I came to wasn’t really a boss as it didn’t really come across as a challenge. It was some sort of mechanical robot that just shot you, but with a few swift punches and a bit of common sense down, it goes like a sack of potatoes.

Going back to losing my bearings and not knowing which way to go it became apparent that I wasn’t looking for the obvious signs that pointed you in the correct directions, sometimes I’m not the brightest button in the box.

The audio I have to say was the main selling point for me. I did enjoy the looping music. I really did start humming it while I was playing very infectiously, to say the least.

Punch panda will only have so much you can get out of it, and the longevity is estimated around 1-2 hours to complete depending on how quick you are, but for £4.99. I would see this worth a purchase as it surely kept me entertained for an evening.

Would I recommend to a friend absolutely, well for the price? It’s 100% worth it, and for the achievements, you will unlock alone.
